Gay people will die out?

I don't mean this disrespectful and its not for any time soon but, if you think your up to it, try to follow my reasoning.

First lets talk a little about natural selection. I think most people don't really get the fine idea of natural selection so I'll try to explain it in layman’s terms. If you think you got a good understanding of natural selection you can skip to the (*).

Let suppose there are a population of 2 eyed creatures who have offspring. now every time they have a new offspring small things can change, like the child looks something like the parents but not completely like the one or like the other. So lets suppose they have 2 kids. Both are "deformed", one has 1 eye the other 3 eyes. Now you have to imagine this in prehistoric times, where there are a lot of predators and where people over 30 are scares. The one with 1 eye will have less chance of survival since he has one eye less and can't see the enemy coming that good. less chance of survival means in average he will live less long than his average 2 eyed brothers. this also means there is a bigger chance of him not causing any offspring.

Now for the other one with 3 eyes we can say the absolute opposite. he will see the enemy coming coming very well. So he has a much higher chance of survival and will have more chance on offspring.

To conclude this: When there is a creature with only 1 eye, we can label this as a negative adjustment. while 3 eyes is a positive adjustment. Over millions of years the number of 3 eyed creatures will grow in the population and the number of 1 eyed creatures will die out. Or what we call natural selection, good adaptations stay bad ones die out.

(*) Secondly we can say that in modern society there is virtually no natural selection any more since we take care of handicapped people. Causing over million of years we probably wont change much anymore.

Finally about the gay people. It paradoxical that gay people didn't get selected out over time since they have no offspring so they don't distribute there genes to the next generation. But this is not the case since gay people were not accepted, most of them lives normal lives with a family and offspring, if they were happy or not is not to the point.

But now that they are getting accepted and that they can live the life they want with a partner of the same gender they will not have any offspring anymore. That means in the event that the current situation stays over million of years, gay people will die out.

Can you follow my reasoning? Again I don't mean this disrespectful nor do i believe I'm right, i just think its worth considering and enlightening to get new insights.

  1. I follow your reasoning, but it only makes sense if you assume that sexual preference is part of our genetic code, that it's included in our DNA.
Personally I don't believe this is the case. To me, sexual preference is a part of someone's personality and thereby highly influencable by one's environment.
Not every gay man on this planet has a hidden gay father as you're suggesting...

  2. indeed
    there i made an assumption
they are still trying to figure it out
i believe there is some part of genetic code causing gay people but also environment.
i read this article in the magazine "EOS" (may 2009 p37) where they said: how more older brothers a boy has, the more chance he is gay. 3 older brothers means a double chance to be gay. this is an important indication that being gay is determined in the whom (at leased with men).

It also said that most gay people like it if there is an genetic origin cause that means they don't have a mental illness but they are that way. there is no way to "cure" it. This is a good point cause then people will be more willing to accept them.
